Blood Clots

Dangerous Side Effects of Yaz Related to Blood Clots

It is normal for oral contraceptives to contain and combine hormones like estrogen and progestin to prevent pregnancy. What is not normal is the elevated risks and side effects of Yaz and other birth control pills that contain the synthetic progestin called drospirenone. The FDA has warned about Yaz injuries pertaining to blood clots and other serious side effects and risks – including death. Women who have endured the painful and life-threatening blood clot side effects may be eligible for compensation, and the lawyers at The JTB Law Group can discuss your case at (800) 9100-LAW.

There have been thousands of reported side effects and Yaz injuries related to venous thromboembolic events (VTE) – or blood clots. Although oral hormonal contraceptives may inherently create an enhanced risk of blood clots and stroke, a report in the British Medical Journal released in August of 2008, claims that the risks associated with Yaz, Yasmin, Beyaz and other contraceptives that contain drospirenone, were even higher. Here are some of the other side effects of Yaz:

  • Blood clots deep in the vein ( Deep Vein Thrombosis)
  • High Blood Pressure (Hypertension)
  • Blood clots in the lung (Pulmonary Embolism)
  • Heart Attack
  • Stroke
  • Death

Other Brands With Drospirenone

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has released several warnings concerning the risks of developing blood clots from using birth-control pills that contain drospirenone. These contraceptives are dispensed to women for variety of medical reasons that include the treatment of moderate acne, as a treatment to elevate folate levels in women who choose to use oral contraceptives as their birth-control method, and to treat the symptoms of the condition known as premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD). Other brand names that contain the progestin drospirenone:

  • Beyaz
  • Gianvi
  • Loryna
  • Ocella
  • Safyral
  • Syeda
  • Yasmin
  • Zarah
